Where Love Takes Wing

There comes a moment in motherhood when the little lives you have spent years nurturing begin to take flight.

Where Love Takes Wing was painted for that beautiful, bittersweet chapter,  when your children are grown, the house begins to change, and you realise that all those years of loving, protecting, teaching and encouraging were preparing them for this moment.

The queen bee sits at the heart of the painting, surrounded by honeycomb, wildflowers and warm touches of gold. The hive represents the home and family built slowly over many years, one memory, one ordinary day, one act of love at a time. The flowers symbolise growth and the wings, the courage to let the people we love find their own way in the world.

I painted this as my own children were beginning to leave home, but it became something much bigger than my own story.

It is for every mother who has watched a child grow.

For the school mornings, bedtime stories, celebrations and worries.
For the years that somehow went by far too quickly.
For the pride and the ache of seeing them become their own person.

Because motherhood doesn't end when our children leave the nest.

Love simply takes wing.
