Article: Rooted in the Forest

Rooted in the Forest
Sketching in the Rockies. Forests like these shaped my childhood memories and still inspire my art today
Since childhood, trees have held a special place in my heart. I was just 8 and 10 years old on those childhood trips from Wales to Canada, and yet the forests left such a powerful imprint on me that decades later I chose to make this place my home. Those weeks of camping in the Rockies planted something deep within me, an unshakable love for forests. It might sound a little whimsical, but that calling was so strong it became part of the reason I moved here.
The smell of a Canadian evergreen pine forest still has the power to calm my soul. It’s a scent I associate with home in the truest sense of the word. Cedar, ponderosa pine, fir—each carries its own beauty, strength, and story. Perhaps there’s even a touch of nostalgic Christmas woven into it, from our yearly tradition of bringing home a freshly cut tree. Those memories formed roots that continue to nourish me as an artist today.
My Enchanted Forests collection began from this lifelong love, and I was overwhelmed when the first three paintings in the series sold out quickly. It confirmed what I felt in my heart—that others, too, share this deep connection to the quiet majesty of trees.
The journey is only beginning. I’ll be adding more pieces to the series soon, and the next painting features a deer nestled within a forest—an image that captures the magic of presence and belonging.
